Connecting to the "Sheridan Secure Access" Wireless Network – Windows 7

These instructions are for Windows 7. Follow these instructions to configure Windows 7 to connect to the "Sheridan Secure Access" wireless network on campus using MS-PEAP.

  1. Click Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center

  2. Click Manage wireless networks from the menu on the left

  3. In the "Manage Wireless Networks" window click Add

  4. Click Manually create a network profile

  5. Complete the information in the fields as follows:
    • Network Name: Sheridan Secure Access
    • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
    • Encryption Type: AES
    • Check the box beside "Start this connection automatically"
    • Click Next

  1. A new window will open informing you that you have Successfully added Sheridan Secure Access. Click Change connection settings

  2. Under Connections tab make sure Connect automatically when this network is in range is checked

  3. Select the Security tab and make sure it is configured as follows:
    • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
    • Encryption type: AES
    • Network authentication method: Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)
    • Put a check mark next to "Remember my credentials for this connection each time I'm logged in"
    • Click the Settings button next to "Choose a network authentication method"

  4. In the "Protected EAP Properties" window, enter the following:
    • Put a check mark next to Validate server certificate
    • Check beside "Connect to these servers:" and enter
    • Under "Trusted Root Certification Authorities:" Put a check mark next to GeoTrust Global CA
    • For Select Authentication Method select Secured Password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
    • Put a check mark next to Enable Fast Reconnect
    • Click the Configure button next to "Select Authentication Method:"

  5. Remove the check mark next to Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any).

  6. Click OK
  7. Click OK in the "Protected EAP Properties" box
  8. Click OK in the "Sheridan Secure Access Wireless Properties" dialog box
  9. Click Close in the "Manually connect to a wireless network" dialog box
  10. Click the wireless icon in the system tray in the lower right hand corner of your screen. A box will show you a list of available wireless networks in range of your laptop. Select Sheridan Secure Access and click the Connect button.

  11. Enter your Sheridan credentials at the prompt. Test your connection by launching a web browser and navigating to any non-Sheridan website.
