Happy Retirement to Arlene Smyth!
IT's Arlene Smyth retired at the end of August after over 30 years of service at Sheridan – and all as a member of IT!
IT's Director of Information & Communication Technology, James Duncan, summed up beautifully in a recent Insider post, just how much of an impact Arlene has made during her time at Sheridan:
"During Arlene’s time at Sheridan, her dedication to the College, her talent for very personal and exceptional customer service, and her commitment to continual learning have set her apart. Much more than that, however, she has in many ways been the heart and soul of the team. Her counsel and care for those around her has kept all of us in good stead for many years. She is truly irreplaceable and will be missed."
Arlene and her husband, Glen, are both looking forward to enjoying the sunset views from the porch of their newly constructed dream home on the Bay of Quinte. Happy retirement, Arlene! You will indeed, be missed.
Enterprise System Services
Welcome Arn Kashino, Director of Enterprise System Services
Arn Kashino came to the role of Director, Enterprise Systems Services back in February. Arn has over 26 years of experience in the information technology field including over 17 years of transformational projects implementing PeopleSoft, SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, Workbrain and Kinaxis applications. Arn has extensive experience in transformational change with a focus on application development, project risk management and assurance, planning and strategy, business process improvement, systems analysis and design, and change management.
Arn’s transformational project background is extensive, ranging from Engagement Manager for organizations like PeopleSoft, Price Waterhouse Coopers, and Workbrain, overseeing multiple projects, as a Project Manager managing projects, and as a Risk Mitigation Specialist on some of Canada’s largest IT and change projects.
Arn is also involved in the community coaching his children’s hockey and baseball teams.
Arn will join his colleagues in IT leading transformational change in our delivery of services and use of institutional information systems. He will oversee enterprise application support (including PeopleSoft), data and development services, and the project services team.
Say Howdy to Mike Howe, Project Management Office, Manager
Mike Howe joined the Sheridan family as the new Manager, Project Services effective at the end of last April. Mike has over 25 years of IT experience, starting as a Systems Engineer and recently as Director of Implementation Services for a small software company focused on delivering PSA solutions built on the Salesforce platform. His drive for new technology started with schooling at the University of Toronto, and that in turn drove him to learn and adapt as our industry changed. Having an extensive track record of managing projects powered by different technologies, Mike has many success stories that he and his teams look back on with a sense of achievement. Mike also managed an internal IT department as Senior Manager at Deloitte, where, like Sheridan, his core application was PeopleSoft where they ‘sweat the asset’ to get the most from that investment. Delivery techniques included the classic waterfall approach, but he has also led initiatives to successfully transition to Agile (hybrid) delivery for projects that made sense.
Sunil Ravikumar, Jr. Web Developer
Sunil Ravikumar came to Sheridan in his role as a Junior Web Developer last February, joining the Enterprise Systems Operations team.
Sunil holds a Masters of Computer Science and comes to us with extensive .NET and mobile application development experience gained from various positions in Canada and India.
IT Support Services
Gui Engmann, IT Services Project Lead
Gui Engmann has been hired for the IT Services Project Lead role, formally being appointed last June. Gui has over seven years of Business Analysis and Project Management experience leading various projects within an IT portfolio, including IT Service Management. Gui joined Sheridan in May 2017; with his organizational experience and knowledge, he will continue to help drive our success and improve satisfaction for our customers.
