[November 16, 2021] We would like to give you a heads up about some upcoming changes to Sheridan’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). IT has deployed and is testing a new VDI solution, Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop. This will replace the VMware Horizon View system currently in use. Sheridan VDI users will get a fresh start with the new system starting in January 2022.
Copy any files* you want to keep from the Persistent Data Disk (D:) in the Horizon View virtual machine to your OneDrive.
* You do not need to copy the system files found in this folder: personality; personality.bak; Users.
Also, if you haven’t already, remember to copy any important files from your Personal Network Drive (G: drive) to your OneDrive. Personal Network Drive services will be retired on May 1, 2022.
The outgoing VMware infrastructure was hosted on-site and had high licensing, hardware, and maintenance costs. Microsoft Azure offers Sheridan significant cost savings and as well as other major benefits:
