[April 23, 2021] Microsoft will be beefing up authentication security for its Exchange email services later this year by phasing out Basic Authentication and moving to Modern Authentication. IT would like to get ahead of this change and will be implementing Modern Authentication beginning on May 10.
Once this change occurs, any email application that utilizes Basic Authentication will no longer work properly. To reduce the impact of this change, Sheridan IT is recommending that you make sure you are using a recommended and supported email application on your computer and/or mobile device.
If you are running any of the email clients noted below you should be good to go. No further action is required on your part. If you need to upgrade, the latest desktop version of the Outlook app can be downloaded via Sheridan’s Office 365 portal – here you can also access Outlook on the web, offering you immediate, secure access to your email.
While the apps noted below support Modern Authentication, it is strongly suggested you use Outlook.
* the use of POP based mail clients is not encouraged
