eduroam Wireless Network

eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. eduroam is available in more than 70 countries and 17,000 locations worldwide.

eduroam allows faculty, staff and students who are visiting participating institutions to access wireless services by using the credentials provided by their home institution.

Set-up Guides

The eduroam wireless network at Sheridan supports WPA2 with AES encryption. A compatible wireless card with up-to-date drivers and patches for your operating system may be required. General setup instructions are provided below. Once successfully connected, your device will be able to access the eduroam network at any participating institution.

Windows 7

  1. Select “eduroam” from the list of available wireless networks
    list of networks

  2. Enter the network credentials for your home institution at the prompt.

    Sheridan users please note:
    Your user name must be entered as follows: user@shernet.sheridancollege.ca

  3. You will see the following security alert when they try to connect—click connect.
    DO NOT CLICK THE TERMINATE BUTTON.

Windows 10

  1. Select “eduroam” from the list of available wireless networks

  2. Enter the network credentials for your home institution at the prompt.

  3. You will see the following security alert when you try to connect—click connect.

MacOS

  1. Select “eduroam” from the list of available wireless networks

  2. Enter the network credentials for your home institution at the prompt.

  3. If you encounter the certificate verification window below, you can view the certificate if you choose, otherwise click Continue.

  1. Select “eduroam” from the list of available wireless networks

  2. Enter the network credentials for your home institution at the prompt. Once successfully connected, your device should will be able to access the eduroam network at any participating institution.

  3. If you encounter the certificate verification window below, click Trust to continue connecting to the eduroam network.

  2. Enter the network credentials for your home institution at the prompt. Once successfully connected, your device should will be able to access the eduroam network at any participating institution.

Sheridan Users Travelling to Partner Institutions

It is recommended that Sheridan faculty, staff and students set up and test their computers prior to travelling to a partner institution. Once it is set up, you will have wireless access to any eduroam-enabled institution in the world. While at Sheridan, you should be using the Sheridan Secure Access wireless network.

Appropriate Use

Users of the eduroam network must abide by Sheridan's Acceptable Use Policy as well as any guidelines set out by the home/visiting institution. Further, users must abide by the Acceptable Use Policy established by CANARIE*.

Support

Technical support for eduroam will be provided by your home institution. Visitors to Sheridan should contact their home institution's IT department for support.

Sheridan faculty, staff or students visiting another participating institution can contact the IT Service Desk for support by calling 905-845-9430 ext. 2150 or by sending email to servicedesk@sheridancollege.ca.
