There has been some shuffling of the decks in regards to IT office space at the Trafalgar campus. The IT office located in E108 has just received a long over-due makeover and some staff will be moving to newly assigned space in BB12. Here's the low-down.

The Employee Technology Policy standardizes eligibility for technological devices owned and/or leased by Sheridan for its employees and sets out the parameters for use of personally owned technological devices in lieu of a Sheridan owned device.

In order to provide better system stability and hard drive integrity of the Windows-based computers in our academic computing labs and mobile classrooms IT has deployed a software tool called Deep Freeze.

PS Campus Solutions database splits

PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Database Splits

When Sheridan originally implemented PeopleSoft, the Student Administration (SA) and HR/Payroll (HR) applications were part of a single integrated database known as SA/HR. Oracle has since changed their support model for these products, requiring each to reside in its own database.

VGA Connections to Podium Controlled Projectors no Longer Supported

VGA Connections to Podium Controlled Projectors at HMC Campus No Longer Available

Effective September 1, VGA connections used to connect to the podium controlled projectors at the Hazel McCallion campus will no longer be available. Due to recent upgrades made to the podium technology in the classrooms, HDMI will be the only connection provided to connect devices to the podium controller.

There is a project underway to refresh AccessSheridan, Sheridan's Intranet portal for students and staff. Over the past year, the project's core team has been finalizing the scope, vision and deliverables for the project and are about to embark upon the RFP phase of the project.

Mac OS X El Capitain: Don't Jump On Board Yet

If you are a Sheridan student using a Mac computer for course work, or a Sheridan staff member using a Mac for your day-to-day work, it is NOT RECOMMENDED that you immediately upgrade to Mac OSX 10.11 (El Capitan) when it is released later this fall.

Sheridan students and employees can "get creative" with to the tools available through Adobe’s Creative Suite of software – Adobe Creative Cloud (CC). The 2015 release of Creative Cloud includes updated versions of your favorite apps – like Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign – all transformed to make you work faster and more efficiently.

Sheridan students and faculty are eligible to receive free, 3-year licenses for software titles from Autodesk. Autodesk is a world leader in 3D design, engineering, and entertainment software for manufacturing, building and construction, and media and entertainment.

Office 2016 for Mac

It's been a long time coming, but a new version of the Office Suite for Mac is finally here. Office 2016 offers all new versions of Microsoft's productivity suite of software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote.

Discounted Software from OnTheHub

For those of you that don't already know, Sheridan students and employees can take advantage of some great discounts on software from OnTheHub (formerly e-academy). Users are entitled to purchase a single license for software from companies such as Microsoft* and VMware at greatly discounted prices.

IT creates and provides software disk images for Sheridan's academic labs and learning spaces as well as disk images for employee's Windows-based laptop computers. We have compiled a list of the software configurations that are being provided by IT for the upcoming academic year.
